Ever heard of Mary Turner? One hundred years ago this week, she was lynched by a white mob. Columnist Leonard Pitts Jr recalls the horrific crime.

But this week — Saturday, to be exact — marks 100 years since a singular act of barbarism in tiny Valdosta, Ga. Mary Turner was maybe 20 years old and she was eight months pregnant when she was lynched.
