Aventura deli owner spots monkey on the loose — twice

Aventura deli owner spots monkey on the loose — twice

2018-04-17T00:05:00+0000

FURRY DRIFTER - The monkey that was spotted in North Miami Beach last month appears to be moving north. A deli owner in Aventura spotted the long-tailed primate -- not once, but twice.

Experts warned residents to avoid getting close to the monkey. The wildlife animal has the potential to spread disease and, if cornered, could also become aggressive.

It's Heartworm Awareness Month. Let's bust a few myths ...

🚫Heartworms are caused by fleas - FALSE! Heartworms happen when an infected mosquito bites your pet. Flea treatment alone will not protect your pet from heartworms.

🚫Heartworms can be cured with dewormer - FALSE! Heartworms live in heart, lungs and blood vessels of your pet. They can grow to be 12 inches long. Prevention is key.

🚫Heartworm-positive dogs cannot be adopted - FALSE! At JHS, many families adopt dogs who are heartworm positive and JHS pays for the treatment. This way dogs can recover in loving homes and get a second leash on life. (Fun fact - you can purchase discounted heartworm prevention from JHS when you adopt, too!)

🚫Heartworms are #NBD (no big deal) - FALSE! Heartworm disease left untreated is fatal.

Remember - heartworm disease IS preventable. Keep your pets safe and on prevention. Just one pill a month! Share this information with a friend so pets everywhere can stay safe. ❤️

Starsky had heartworms when I adopted him from JHS. With all the help from JHS to get him treated and taken care of, He's almost a year past all those problems. :)

We got Bella from JHS 3 years ago. she had heartworms but was cleared up before we got her. All we do is give her heartguard once a month and the vet does the heartworm test once a year which is always negative.

Another favorite: “my dog doesn’t go outside/only goes out to potty, he can’t get heartworms.”

Awesome news !!

Is this good ?

Fantastic. Nice to see that Florida's FWC was involved. We don't always see good news about FWC, but this along with the successful rehab & release of a Florida Panther & her cubs recently, is excellent.
